My Story
Mar 09, 2021
My Nanna was an artist. When I was a child, I spent countless hours in her studio alongside her, learning all I could about the way she worked. There was the most brilliant calm to her space, and I loved every inch of it - even the smell of the turps used to clean her brushes is still etched in my mind.
It took me a while to pick up paint brushes again. Although, in 2019 I had a pretty impactful year and a friend suggested I start painting. And, rather than go in with a plan (as I normally would do in life) instead just to pick up brushes and see what happens.
Fast forward a few months, and I was racing home from my day job to paint into the early hours of the morning most week days. Then, as I gained loads of spare time, it organically progressed into a separate account, and now a website and fully fledged business.
I’ve always been one to mix my passions; I did a Design degree but majored in public relations. I was working full time in marketing, but for design companies. So, perhaps it’s unsurprising that once again when it comes to Hot Yoga Art, my passions merged.
About seven years ago I stepped into my first Bikram Yoga class and was hooked. I fell in love with the concept of challenging my body against only myself, every day. Some days it came easy, other days it was hard work.
After painting my first nude, I received a fair few requests for more of these. When I thought about the nudes I wanted to paint, I’d stared at those mirrors for long enough, and I knew what poses I found most beautiful, inspiring - and challenging.
To kick off how I'd create the painting series, I started drawing the postures I’d grown to love in the lines that you see in the Hot Yoga Art series today. Staring at the drawings one night, my sister told me there was beauty in these too… and so now I'm sharing these with you.
This project hasn’t come to life on its own. I’ve had so many people heavily influence and help along the way. Every member of my family has played a part, and many good mates too.
For so long I had been craving flow and I’ve found it. While this is just the beginning, I’m so glad you’ve landed here and can share in my journey.
